Australia

Murray Valley encephalitis: 25 infections have been confirmed nationally this year, with the states of New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and the Northern Territory particularly affected. Laos

Dengue: The disease occurs nationwide. Since the beginning of this year, around 2,520 people have been infected, compared to around 670 in the same period last year. Last year, more than 32,350 cases and 28 deaths were registered. Roughly half of the cases come from the capital Vientiane and the provinces of Saravan, Attapeu and Luang Namtha are also particularly affected. In 2021, a total of about 1330 infections were registered. At least 7,970 cases and 13 deaths have been reported in 2020. Pay attention to protection against mainly diurnal mosquito vectors. Malawi

Intestinal infections: nationwide risk of diarrhoeal diseases, especially in the summer rainy season (October-March) with local outbreaks of cholera. Dengue: 600 infections have been reported since the beginning of this year. The affected districts are Dang Deukhuri and Rupandehi in Terai’s Lumbini province and Lalitpur, Kathmandu and Bhaktapur districts in Kathmandu Valley’s Bagmati province. In 2022, about 54,800 people fell ill and 88 died. Apart from the Kathmandu valley, districts in the high mountains were again affected. Most infections were registered in September. The disease was first confirmed in Nepal in 2004, with only small outbreaks observed in the south of the country in subsequent years. The largest outbreak to date, with approximately 18,000 infections and 6 deaths, was registered in 2019. Protection against mosquitoes that are active mainly during the day. Panama

Leptospirosis: Approximately 75 infections and 6 deaths have been reported since the beginning of this year. Leptospires enter the environment through the urine of infected mammals (rats, dogs). Transmission to humans occurs by direct or indirect contact with urine through small skin or mucous membrane injuries.
