PREVENAR 20

A conjugate vaccine against pneumococcal infections designed to protect against serious diseases caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae, starting at 6 weeks of age. Pneumococcal diseases cause pneumonia, middle ear infections, sinus infections, meningitis, or sepsis. The vaccine is intended for adults and selected at-risk groups. The vaccine is administered into the upper arm.

Vaccination Schedule

Adults are usually given a single dose of the vaccine. Further vaccinations depend on the patient’s age, health status, previous vaccinations, and individual risk.
Vaccination is recommended especially for seniors, patients with chronic heart, lung, liver, or kidney disease, people with diabetes, smokers, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

When is it necessary to postpone vaccination?

It is best to postpone vaccination in the event of an acute febrile illness.

Most commonly reported side effects

Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site; fatigue; headaches; muscle and joint pain; elevated temperature; or a brief fever.

Pregnancy, Breastfeeding

The vaccine can be administered during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
