Vaccine against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

ABRYSVO is a vaccine designed to protect against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). It helps protect older adults against severe lower respiratory tract disease and is also administered to pregnant women to protect newborns during the first months of life through maternal antibodies. The vaccine is administered intramuscularly in the upper arm.

Vaccination Schedule

Adults are given one dose of the vaccine.

During pregnancy, vaccination is recommended between Weeks 24 and 36 of pregnancy . Antibodies produced by the mother cross the placenta to the fetus and help protect the baby during the period when it is most at risk of a severe RSV infection.

When to Postpone Vaccination

It is advisable to postpone vaccination in the event of an acute febrile illness or if a doctor determines that the patient’s current health condition is not suitable for vaccination. After vaccination, it is recommended to avoid excessive physical exertion on the day of vaccination and to follow your usual rest regimen.

The Most Common Side Effects

The most common side effects are pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site. Fatigue, headache, muscle or joint pain, or a slightly elevated body temperature may occur temporarily. These symptoms usually go away on their own within a few days.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

ABRYSVO is also indicated for use in pregnant women to protect their newborns. A doctor will determine whether vaccination is appropriate during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, taking into account the individual’s health status.

Notice

Vaccination significantly reduces the risk of severe RSV infection, but it does not provide 100 percent protection.
