Sri Lanka – Occurrence of the Dengue Fever

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic warns Czech citizens traveling to Sri Lanka about the increased occurrence of Dengue fever, especially in the area around the capital Colombo. The infection is manifested by rapid onset of fever, severe bone and joint pain, and general seizure. A bright red measles-like rash may also occur. There is currently no vaccination against the virus. It is recommended to use repellents and protect yourselves with long sleeves and trousers. If any of the above symptoms occur, medical attention should be sought immediately. All travelers planning a trip to Sri Lanka are encouraged to register in the DROZD database.
