Costa Rica

Malaria: Since the beginning of the year, more than 330 cases have been registered across the country. The north of the country is particularly affected. Germany

West Nile fever: The first human infection this year was reported in mid-August. A total of 9 infections were confirmed by mid-October. Berlin, Leipzig and the districts of Harz, Saalekreis, Vogtlandkreis and Salzlandkreis are affected. In 2018, the first locally acquired infections in birds and horses were registered in Germany, and in late summer 2019, 5 people fell ill in eastern Germany for the first time. Last year, 4 human infections were recorded. The virus primarily infects birds, but can also spread to humans, horses, and other mammals. Use mosquito repellent.

ElSalvador

Haiti

Madagascar

Nepal

Dengue: Since the beginning of this year, around 41,750 people have fallen ill and 49 have died. 540 infections were registered last year. The infection was first confirmed in Nepal in 2004, in the following years only small outbreaks were observed in the south of the country. Nepal

Tsutsugamushi fever: 280 people in Chitwan district have been infected since mid-July. There is also the Royal Chitwan National Park, which has been developed for tourism. Pakistan

Malaria: More than 3.4 million suspected cases were reported nationwide by the end of August this year, up from 2.6 million in 2021. More than 170,000 infections have been confirmed. A rapid increase in malaria cases was observed after the first floods in June. The provinces of Sindh and Balochistan were particularly hard hit, accounting for 78% of all confirmed infections nationwide this year. A further 210,715 cases were reported in September. United States

Poliomyelitis: In late June, an infection with vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) was confirmed in the United States for the first time since 2013. A 20-year-old was temporarily treated at a clinic in Rockland County, New York State, for paralysis. According to the authorities, polioviruses were detected in wastewater samples in the region even before the man became ill. By mid-September, viruses had been detected in around 60 sewage samples, and the authorities in the state of New York declared a disaster at the beginning of September.
