Fiji
Leptospirosis: As a result of major flooding, around 180 infections and 19 deaths have already been confirmed since the beginning of the year. Mozambique
Poliomyelitis: In February, 2 vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) infections were confirmed. The cases were detected in the provinces of Nampula and Cabo Delgado and are from the previous year. Due to the occurrence of cVDPV2, the country is formally one of the countries with a potential risk of the international spread of the pathogen. Rabies: A 4-year-old child died in January after a dog bite in the Eastern Cape. Last year, 19 cases were recorded, 9 from the Eastern Cape, 6 from KwaZulu-Natal and 4 from Limpopo. The most common source of infection is dog bites. Hepatitis A: An outbreak in guests at an Italian restaurant in County Montgomery (Pennsylvania) was confirmed in early January. 13 people are sick, there were 3 deaths. The infections are unrelated to the outbreak at the end of September 2021, in which 49 people fell ill and 4 died. According to the CDC, since 2016 there has been an increase in nationwide outbreaks in which the infections are transmitted from person to person. Most infections were recorded in the states of Kentucky, Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Indiana. Carefully observe hygiene measures and possibly consider vaccination.
